Two thumbs down! (Photos by Katie Sokoler/Gothamist)
As you may or may not know, we are huge fans of Bored To Death over here at Gothamist, so news that HBO has decided to pull the plug on the show, which just ended its third season, is hitting hard. And right during the already depressing holiday season! Thanks HBO, we are now canceling our cable subscriptions. Feel our wrath, huge network conglomerate.
Are you asking yourself, "What Can I Do?" Good. If an online petition got Betty White to host SNL, can't it work to get this show back on the air? This show, after all, made Brooklyn a more magical place, or as John Hodgman told us, "In Jonathan Ames's world, things are better." Someone get working on a letter writing campaign or something, while we wait to hear back from Ames about his thoughts on this whole thing.
Meanwhile, according to Variety, the network did renew the low-rated Enlightened (with a million less viewers than Bored To Death), Boardwalk Empire, Treme, Game Of Thrones, and Eastbound & Down, and are making room for new shows like Girls, Life's Too Short (with Warwick Davis and Ricky Gervais), and an Aaron Sorkin drama tentatively called Newsroom. Falling off the lineup along with Bored To Death are Hung and How to Make It in America (so there is some justice).
UPDATE: Mourn over Bored To Death's death with Jonathan Ames Wednesday night at the Brooklyn Inn.
