On Friday night, a Brooklyn teen standing on a street divider in Gravesend was struck and killed by an alleged drunk driver. Driver Vitali Korzavin, 46, was arrested and charged with a DWI, speeding, and vehicular manslaughter in the death of 17-year-old Stuyvesant High School student Terence Tsao. Terence's devastated father, Ting Man Taso, told the News his son was returning home from his school’s Board Game Society, of which he was the president: “He stayed late on Fridays to be with his friends. That was his fun night.”
Terence, a senior at Stuyvesant, was standing on a Cropsey Ave. traffic island at Bay 37th St. in Gravesend when a 2000 Dodge minivan jumped the curb and hit him around 9:40 p.m. “He wanted to study environmental science. He believed he could make a difference. His message was always work hard, always be generous," Tsao said. You can see tributes to Terence from classmates and friends here and here.
The proud father said his son had already won scholarships to a handful of colleges, including a four-year merit scholarship to Allegheny College in Pennsylvania. He also loved working as a docent at the New York Aquarium: “He especially loved the touch pools with the starfish. Children loved the touch pools, and he loved interacting with the public.”
