The schedule put the Jets at a disadvantage heading into Denver this week, but the players and coaches deserve the blame for a putrid 17-13 loss to the Broncos. The offense was almost non-existent, managing to only produce a field goal. The defense, which scored New York's only touchdown on a fumble recovery in the end zone, made a huge mistake late in the game.
The Jets led 13-10 with just over a minute left in the game and Denver facing a 3rd-and-4 from the New York 20. Tim Tebow, the Denver QB, had turned in another terrible passing performance, going 9-for-20 for 104 yards. Yet, for some unknown reason, the Jets decided to blitz and rushed eight men at the very mobile QB. Tebow scrambled to his left and headed for the end zone which he reached thanks to some nifty downfield blocking by his receivers.
That proved to be the difference and the Jets are now in serious trouble. They are 5-5 and face a must-win game against Buffalo in ten days.
The Islanders beat Montreal 4-3 as Rick DiPietro had to come in and replace Nabokov in goal. Nabokov left with a groin injury and the Isles ran off three-straight goals in the second to take a 3-0 lead before holding on for the win.
