Adorable Mini Library Pops Up In Williamsburg

Yes, sometimes Williamsburg is so twee it borders on nausea-inducing, but every once in a while, a homegrown project pops up in the neighborhood that's completely adorable without making you feel sick. The K.I.D.S Corner Library is one of those projects.
Sitting pretty on the corner of Leonard and Withers Streets in Williamsburg, the K.I.D.S. (Kindness and Imagination Development Society) Corner Library is intended to "encourage local exchange and to help neighbors meet, know, and help one another in physical space with issues and interests that matter to them daily, right here and now,” said founder Colin McMullan. It's been up since this spring and runs on the honor system—every book (or CD, or homemade zine, or DVD, or whatever people choose to donate) has a slip of paper attached and borrowers are trusted to record their name and return the object two weeks later. It currently has about 50 members.
The library is open 24 hours a day, and to join, all you have to do is get in touch with McMullan here and he'll set you up with a card and the access code for the lock. McMullan and his partner Gabriela Alva are also actively looking for "librarians" and community members to collaborate with. Their tumblr has a full catalogue collection here, which currently includes gems like an "I Love Russian Music" mix CD and Rod Sterling's Triple W: Witches, Warlocks and Werewolves. [via Nylon]
