The Bronx doesn't get too much food love most days, but there are some awesome eats to be found, if you know where to look. Attack the very tip of the Bronx iceberg with the borough's first-ever Savor the Bronx: Restaurant Week, which actually runs for closer to two weeks, from November 1 to 13.

In the lineup are plenty of old-school Italian joints on Arthur Avenue, the OG Little Italy (check out Zero Otto Nove and Roberto's), pub grub on the waterfront in City Island (The Snug Tavern & Grill), Spanish eats (Flamboyan Bar & Restaurant), and, yes, an Applebee's. As Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. puts it, "The Bronx is your oyster!"—chain restaurants and all.

Restaurant Week is all well and good, but for what it's worth, there's a whole slew of other restaurants worth checking out in the borough as well, regardless of whether they're Restaurant Week participants or not. Hit up tiny La Tia (200 West 231st Street) for a ginormous bowl of asopao de pollo, essentially paella in soup form; Real Azteca (1013 East 163rd Street) for handmade-to-order tortillas; Dominick's (2335 Arthur Avenue) for menu-free red-sauce classics; or El Nuevo Bohio (791 East Tremont Avenue) for hand-chopped, extra-tender Puerto Rican lechón (way better than all the overpriced pork belly taking over menus downtown—even the Times agrees).

If none of those strike your fancy, please direct your attention to Baron Ambrosia of Bronx Flavor, BronxNet TV's totally gonzo, zoot-suited, endlessly enthusiastic ambassador to all of the borough's hidden culinary gems.
