Big news for bi-coastal foodies: Andy Ricker, the chef at Portland's ragingly popular Thai restaurant Pok Pok, is coming to New York before the end of the year.
Four Loko-loving chef Eddie Huang broke the news on his blog, announcing that Ricker will be taking over his recently shuttered Baohaus space at 137 Rivington Street: "Andy had been to 137 before so when I told him we were putting the property on the market, he told me he was looking for a spot that size to do a wing shack. I made him an offer, we shook hands, and within three weeks, all you gonna hear is bitches screamin' 2 Pok." Ricker's fish sauce wings are the stuff of legend—as one west coast blogger explains, "People rave, marvel and wait for hours for these babies."
Ricker confirmed the news to Eater, saying the tiny space will be "a wing joint with papaya salad made to order and sticky rice, a few specials and the drinking vinegars. No opening date as of yet but before the new year." He also told Grub Street that he's scouting a Red Hook location for a larger Pok Pok spinoff. Will his wings win over the New York crowd? Only time will tell, but we're willing to bet that snack food + prime LES real estate + built-in cult following probably equals a recipe for success.
