Are you still mourning the loss of Les Misérables, which closed on Broadway in May 2003 following an impressive 16-year run (and was subsequently revived just three years later)? Here's some good news: a film adaptation starring Hugh Jackman is scheduled to begin filming next March with a projected December 2012 release.

According to the casting call, there are plenty of other bold-faced names attached to the project. Jackman will be starring as the hero Jean Valjean, Russell Crowe as his nemisis Javert, Anne Hathaway as the pitiful, doomed prostitute Fantine, and Emma Watson as her daughter Cosette. Rounding out the cast are Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter in supporting roles. That's a lot of beautiful stars (well, and Geoffrey Rush) covered in soot!

The Oscar-baiting extravaganza, helmed by The King's Speech director Tom Hooper, is likely to be released in 3D. Sure, the original stage production was technically in 3D, but the average Broadway audience member wasn't likely see the details in Valjean's face (and it was hardly as chiseled as Jackman's).

Actors who are legally allowed to work in the UK should definitely audition for the remaining supporting roles, if only to make sure that *Glee'*s Lea Michelle is not cast as Eponine. They'll also need plenty of extras! Who knows when there'll be another film to feature so many 19th-century French hookers?
