At least five protesters have reportedly been arrested earlier today in Zuccotti Park after police forced demonstrators to remove tarp that was protecting electronic equipment from the rain. OccupyWallStreet, a group not affiliated with Adbusters or Anonymous, claims there were injuries as well, one of them "critical." Allan Eaton, who has camped in the park since Saturday, tells us that NYPD officers demanded the removal of the tarps at around 10:30 a.m. because they acted as "tents." When they weren't removed fast enough, "things got rough." Eaton saw one man "being dragged away in cuffs and he was bleeding out of the mouth."

Another protester reportedly had an asthma attack while he was being arrested, and the video below illustrates him struggling under the weight of the arresting officer.

Thousands have gathered in the Financial District since the demonstrations began on Saturday, and at least seven had been arrested before today, some for violating an antiquated anti-mask law, others for illegal entry or "jumping" a barricade. Eaton says roughly a hundred have opted to camp in Zuccotti Park, and that the police did not object to them setting up tents at night.

"Most of the police I've talked to have been very supportive," Eaton said, "But there have been a few that were really rude. This is a peaceful protest." Eaton has to head home to Los Angeles tomorrow, but emphatically states that his peers aren't going anywhere. "Oh they'll be here for weeks…They're trying to break our spirits, and crush the momentum we have going but it's not going to happen."

We'll update as more information becomes available. The NYPD or FDNY cannot yet confirm the arrests nor if there were any injuries.

[UPDATE / 7:15 p.m.] The NYPD tells us that there were actually seven arrests this morning, in two separate incidents, occurring around 10:40 a.m. The first yielded three arrests, two for disobeying a lawful order to disperse/disorderly conduct, and another for the use of a bullhorn without a permit.

In the next incident, which occurred shortly after the first, the man shown in the video was arrested for violating a sanitation code by failing to remove a tarp. He was arrested for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and obstructing an investigation. Two more protestors were arrested for disobeying a lawful order to disperse/disorderly conduct, and the another for resisting arrest/disorderly conduct.

While the protestor with the tarp was treated for a minor cut on the leg at the 1st Precinct station house, no other injuries were reported.

Early Addition: Do any of you get off at the 3rd Avenue L train stop?

Because one software engineer crunched the numbers and decided the stop is useless, here are your early links: Street named for Jose Alvarado in Bushwick, the TikTok star cleaning up tree beds, Ethan Slater in "Little Shop of Horrors" and more.
