New York is filled with millions of talented people who for various reasons don't get to do their thang at their day jobs. One industry in particular boasts a seemingly unending supply of accomplished folk whose skills are wasted at work: the restaurant industry. But, for one afternoon at least, all those gifted workers can get their chance to shine without having to bring you another Bloody Mary. Enter Not My Day Job, an annual benefit for Wellness in Schools in which NYC food and beverage industry workers from places including Eataly, Shake Shack, Marc Forgione, Kuma Inn, Fatty Cue, Market Table, L'Artusi and dell'anima get a chance to strut their stuff (and help kids while they're at it). There will be dancing, music, photos, food and more. Also, a professional whister?
The whole event—which costs between $60-$80 depending on if you want booze and is cheaper if you can prove you are part of the industry—runs from 1 to 6 p.m. this Sunday, September 18, at the Players Club on Gramercy Park South and will have food and drink galore, including home-brewed beers and Brooklyn Brewery brews, and will also include an auction with packages including butchery classes at Fleischer's, dinner at DBGB and a wine tasting with Joe Campanale. Hard to complain about artists doing their thing next to good food and drink for a good cause. Tickets on sale here.
