Once again, the bad news just seems to follow the Mets, even when they win a doubleheader. This time, it turns a bit scary: A young boy was hit in the face by a line drive during yesterday's game versus the Marlins. The incident occurred during the ninth inning, when the Marlins' Greg Dobbs hit a foul ball into the stands near the Mets' dugout.
Justin Turner, the Mets' second basemen, says it was a brutal moment. "As soon as it hit him, I turned and cringed," explained Turner. "I mean, you don’t want to see that happen. I heard his mom start screaming, and I turned back around and saw all the blood and got sick to my stomach."
Stadium officials immediately rushed to help the young boy, and he was taken away on a stretcher. Once the first game ended — the Mets did win — Turner says that he got to see the boy, who was conscious and talking as he was wheeled through the clubhouse.Turner gave the boy's mother his jersey and Dobbs rushed over to give the boy a bat. Maybe that wasn't the best idea for a souvenir, but hey, he tried.
According to Mets vice president of security Rob Kasdon, the boy is expected to be okay, the vast amounts of blood apparently were from a deep cut on the kid's nose.
