Hurricane Irene is here...and with her comes a tornado watch from the National Weather Service! The watch will be in effect in all five boroughs until 5 a.m.; according to NY1, there's no need to panic (any extra), because this is common with hurricanes. But that's not the only thing Irene brought with her—the first power outages have been reported in Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island.

According to NY1 reporter Josh Robin, power outages have been reported in Fresh Meadows, Queens, in southern Park Slope and Gravesend, Brooklyn, and in Annadale in SI. There has also been flooding reported in Staten Island, at the major intersection of Victory Boulevard and Bradley Avenue. ConEd has said that they will shut down electricity south of the Brooklyn Bridge and east of Broadway if flooding is bad.

NYC Commissioner of the Office of Emergency Management Joseph Bruno warns residents to be prepared in the morning for the worst of the hurricane: gale-force winds, storm surges of 4-8 feet, winds of 55-75 MPH and wind gusts of 90 MPH. Bruno says the "worst of the storm" to pass by 5 p.m. Sunday, when cleanup will begin.
