Wide receiver Plaxico Burress is staying in New York—just not with the Giants. Burress has agreed in principle to sign a one-year deal for $3,017,000 to join the Jets. And we think a certain inspirational coach may be a major reason why he signed with them: "I think he’s great. He stands behind his players, I think his players have a lot of respect for him. They play hard for him…He’s a great coach, great personality. He seems like he’s always upbeat," Plax said about Rex Ryan yesterday, according to Bergen Record's Jenny Vrentas.

Burress, who was in jail for nearly two years after he shot himself in the thigh with a handgun at a nightclub in the city, had met with Giants coach Tom Coughlin on Friday, and the Steelers yesterday, but it seems he didn't need to have sit down with the Jets to decide to sign with them. Burress gave his Super Bowl prediction on Twitter this morning: "This is what I think Eagles vs Jets."

This deal will likely mean the end for wide receiver Braylon Edwards, who has been with the Jets for two seasons. Burress will now be paired with Santonio Holmes, who re-signed with the team for a five-year deal this week; with the receiving corp in place, CBS reporter Mike Freeman tweeted, "The Jets may have the best receiving corps in football."

As for the Giants, who must be feeling like they shot themselves in the foot today, there's always..."reverse Anne Frank" guy.
