Brooklyn is getting yet another market this weekend, with the opening of the DeKalb Market downtown, housed inside of abandoned shipping containers. They'll be offering food from Cheeky Sandwiches, Joe coffee, Robicelli’s cupcakes and Sour Puss Pickles, amongst others, and while there's nothing wrong with local businesses hawking their wares, you have to wonder: does the borough really need another place for independent, artisanal goods?

Between the Brooklyn Flea, Smorgasburg and Northside Market, (plus Manhattan outposts like the New Amsterdam Market and Hester Street Fair) there's no shortage of outdoor marketplaces for Brooklynites to pick up locally-cured pickles and organic, fair-trade coffee beans. Hell, even the Times jumped on that trend months ago. And while markets can be a great springboard for small businesses to grow a customer base, many of the vendors at the DeKalb market already have their own established brick-and-mortar locations, or are, at the very least, veterans on the market circuit.

“We’re hoping to provide something new and interesting to people in the area," said a spokeswoman from Urban Space Management, the group putting together the market. But so far, it looks like the biggest difference between this market and the ones like it is that DeKalb is open seven days a week, not just on weekends. Also: shipping containers! Sure, Brooklyn can probably support another outdoor market, but how many more pop up until we reach the breaking point and hundreds of hipsters die in a horrific Etsy avalanche? We're all canaries in the artisanal coal mine, people!
