A Canarsie man admitted to beating his stepdaughter to death in broad daylight on the front porch of his home yesterday after she accused him of sexually abusing her. The Daily News has published graphic photographs of the crime scene, showing the front porch stained with blood and the bare foot of 18-year-old Lakeshia Seymour dangling over the edge. Her stepfather, Jean Simon, 54, was apprehended hours after allegedly attacking the teen with a hammer and bashing her head against the concrete banister outside the East 102nd Street home.
"I saw him beating Keisha on the head with a big boot," one relative tells the News. "She tried to hide under a chair on the landing." Sources tell the Post Lakeshia had recently made the sexual abuse allegation to someone outside the family, who then told the mother. Then Simon, who has been married to Lakeshia's mother for nine years, flew into a rage upon hearing the accusation. After beating his stepdaughter to death, police say he fled in a gold Mercedes, which he subsequently crashed on the Jackie Robinson Parkway.
When a good Samaritan approached the smashed Mercedes to help him, Simon reportedly brandished a knife and ran into a Ridgewood cemetery, where police later found him hiding in heavy brush. He was taken into custody, and the Post reports that he confessed to murder, but denies the sexual abuse allegations. Lakeshia's uncle tells the tabloid, "They did not get along. They argued and fussed and fought before but it never got physical."
