Copacabana: The legendary mob-run nightclub Copacabana opened in 1950 on East 60th Street. The location changed several times over the years, as different iterations of the club opened and closed around Manhattan, and now a new Copa is riding the club's legacy into a multi-level Times Square location. Opening this week one flight up off 47th Street, the Cuban-inspired supper club is serving "authentic Latin cuisine highlighting regional specialties," with live music nightly from a seven-piece salsa band. Original design elements include the Copa's old white palm trees crafted of metal and plaster, which have been restored and scattered through the dining room, which is all metallic, gold, glass and glitz. Here you can order from a selection of over 100 rums, and Chef Alex Garcia's food menu features entrees in the $20 range, with options such as a traditional Peruvian dishes like Tiradito (raw fish in a spicy sauce) and Jalea, a popular Peruvian seafood dish consisting of rock shrimp, squid & scallops lightly fried in cornmeal with oranges & lemons. From the chef’s native Cuba, there’s a Rabo, a fiery braised oxtail with bone marrow and a fig & onion house made marmalade, as well as Arroz Imperial, grilled chicken with saffron rice, chicken stew, caper & olives from Matanzas. 268 West 47th Street, (212) 221-2672
