The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences this morning announced the nominees for the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards (here's the official PDF). And while many of the names on the list are familiar, there were some interesting switches. Notably HBO's two new dramas, Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones, were both nominated for Best Drama against Mad Men, Dexter, Friday Night Lights and The Good Wife.
Lots of shows did well in the nominations, but Mad Men came out on top with 19, followed by Boardwalk Empire with 18 (including a best actor nod for Steve Buscemi). Modern Family walked off with 17 nominations (which, beyond its Best Comedy nod, included taking half of the supporting comedy actor and actress nominations). Game of Thrones and 30 Rock both earned 13 nominations and Glee got 12, including a nomination for best comedy. HBO's Mildred Pierce actually led in terms of all programming, however, with 21 nominations. And CBS led all the networks with 50 nominations.
