Looks like it's another dinner of Amy's 3 Cheese Pizza with Cornmeal Crust tonight, for the usually fine folks at Kashi have recalled 11,000 cases of frozen pizzas due to possible plastic fragments found in an ingredient. The plastic pieces are small, but they still run the risk of injuring Kashi pizza consumers—though one assumes their notoriously sophisticated palates would immediately detect the plastic before they even started chewing.
There have reportedly been no consumer complaints or injuries related to the plastic contamination, but Kashi is playing it safe and recalling three types of their frozen thin crust pizza. The recall affects Kashi Mediterranean Thin Crust Pizza, Kashi Roasted Vegetable Thin Crust Pizza, and Kashi Mushroom Trio and Spinach Thin Crust Pizza. If you think you may have purchased one of these pies with the surprise plastic inside, do consult Food Safety News for more specific details about the recall.
As AboutLawsuits.com notes, plastic food contamination is all the rage these days; in March, more than 10,000 pounds of Lean Cuisine spaghetti and meatballs frozen dinners were recalled after Nestle, the manufacturer, got reports from consumers of small plastic pieces in the meals. And last year 100,000 pounds of Wal-Mart frozen chicken nuggets were recalled due to pieces of plastic. But that's life; like grandma always said, we've all got to eat a pound of plastic before we die.
