President Obama will either be replaced by an Italian-stereotype-loving pizza mogul or the former cyborg governor of Taxachusetts, or maybe if we're really lucky, the guy who called for the impeachment of Bill Clinton while simultaneously banging a woman who wasn't his wife. Who it won't be is New Jersey governor Chris Christie. So why is Barry reportedly digging dirt on the big guy?

The Post has an "exclusive" report that "Obama operatives are compiling a dossier of what they call 'opposition research.'" Ooh the French word for "report!" Sounds naughty! Obama's people "have chosen not to dispatch their own people to New Jersey, but instead are talking to people" who know Christie to see if they will dish anything. Maybe we've seen All The President's Men too many times, but this seems like the crappiest "opposition research" ever.

Given the ahem colorful field of GOP presidential candidates, this whole "story" reeks of candidate-baiting on the part of the Republican elite: deep pockets attempting to establish Christie as a candidate just because Obama "thinks" he will be. Christie's spokesman denies that this is a sign that the governor will run, saying "This is just wishful thinking…he is not running, and he is not cracking the door open even a little bit." Well why not tell us what's behind that door, governor? Afraid of what Obama's "operatives" will find?
