Because apparently no one in this city can get enough of food that comes out of a truck (it's magic!), the Prospect Park Alliance has put together an event that will make it even easier for you to find a meal on wheels, and they're calling it, creatively, Food Truck Rally. Taking over Grand Army Plaza next Sunday, the festival promises everything from lobster rolls (Red Hook Lobster Pound) to falafel (Taim Mobile), all in one convenient parking lot—but wait, haven't we seen this before?
Although the Brooklyn Paper describes the Rally as "New York’s first," we seem to recall a similar event last summer on Governor's Island, and it wasn't pretty (the phrase "total clusterfuck" may ring a bell). Apart from not having to take a ferry to get there, will this event be any different? And really, when will this food truck madness stop? No disrespect to Souvlaki GR and Kelvin Natural Slush Co. intended—your chicken pitas and ginger slushes are great, guys—but when trucks are roaming the streets doling out cricket tacos, haven't we seen enough? Not to mention the fact that there's already a Gourmet Food Truck Bazaar and multiple tour operators running walkable food truck tours.
But fine. If you're still not satisfied, there's always Zagat's similarly-themed "Food Truck Frenzy" on May 18th and the brand-new Food Trucks: Dispatches and Recipes From the Best Kitchens on Wheels cookbook to keep you revved up.
