An adorable seal decided to spend his humpday making his way from the Hudson River to a beach in Inwood. CityRoom reports, "The seal had a light gray coat with dark spots. It lay on the sand near some graffitied rocks and growled and thumped the sand whenever photographers drew too close." Seal hates paparazzi!
The police called the Riverhead Foundation, whose staff is monitoring the animal via the Parks Department's Urban Rangers. Apparently the seal looks fine and "seems to be just hanging out on the beach, which is normal behavior, even in a heavily populated area." It's believed the seal will head back to the water on his own.
An Inwood resident was smug when speaking to DNAinfo, "Inwood has all sorts of wildlife," like deer, raccoons and eagles. "That's what makes it so special, you don't have stuff like this in Midtown."
