Man, somebody really has it out for the Narrows Botanical Garden in Bay Ridge. A month after the NYPD mistakenly raided the volunteer garden's chicken coop, someone has apparently snuck in and stolen thousands of dollars worth of donated plants and planters from the garden. Why someone would steal a $3,000 bonsai tree, we have no idea.
The materials went missing after the garden locked up last Thursday and what's worse, the thieves seemed to know what they were doing, making sure to take the most valuable greens in the garden. “We’re just so disgusted over this,” Jimmy Johnson, the garden landscaper, told the Brooklyn Paper. “I can’t believe someone would do this to a volunteer effort.”
Along with the chicken thing, and some recent vegetable thefts, the volunteer gardeners are at their wits end. “There is only so much I can take,” complained Johnson. “First the chicken incident and now this—we’re just so vulnerable here.”
Is this all the work of some disgruntled neighbor? Does New York need to be on the lookout for a garden robber? Are stoop flower pots safe? We fear for the shrubbery!
