The speculation that Glenn Beck's days at Fox News were numbered have turned out to be true. In a joint statement from Beck's production company and Fox the two announce that the host will be leaving "later this year" but that they'll still get together sometimes for "a variety of television projects."
The news comes as the ratings for Becks' 5 p.m. broadcast have slipped from their high last year during the Tea Party's rise. In the first quarter of 2011 he was down 31 percent to 2 million compared to the same quarter in 2010. At 38 percent, the drop was even more pronounced among adults 25-54 years old.
Not that the Fox folk or Beck is focusing on that. In the same statement Roger Ailes, Fox News' CEO, says that “Glenn Beck is a powerful communicator, a creative entrepreneur and a true success by anybody’s standards. I look forward to continuing to work with him.”
There is currently no word on who will replace him when he steps down, but it is worth noting that Andrew Napolitano did just fine in the ratings when he stepped in for the Beckster last month.
So. We guess soon enough we won't have Beck on our TV to kick around anymore. Luckily for his fans (and his detractors), he'll still be on the radio three hours a day and has two websites for the other 21 hours. Not to mention those rumors that the Spider-Man fan is cooking up a network all his own....
