Ever come down five minutes too late to move your car for alternate side parking only to find the Sanitation Department has slapped on one of those stickers that's totally impossible to get off without leaving scratch marks and a sticky residue on your window? Councilman David Greenfield hates that too, so tomorrow he's planning on introducing legislation to ban the stickers, saying fines are plenty for parking scofflaws. He asked the Daily News, "It's a pretty punitive form of punishment. I mean, what's next? We're going to start slashing people's tires when they don't park on the correct side?"

Besides the total shame of everyone on your block knowing that the street couldn't be cleaned because you just needed to hit the snooze button, Greenfield argues that the window-blocking stickers are a safety hazard. "How the heck are you supposed to drive and look out your window when you got this big thing stuck there?" he asked. "If somehow you offended the sanitation police ... you have sinned so gravely that they have to not only give you a ticket, they must now slap a sticker on that's impossible to remove, shaming you and your entire family with you." Offended the Sanitation gods one too many times, have you Greenfield?

Sanitation Department spokesman Vito Turso argues, "Stickers have been a very effective means of conveying to motorists the importance of moving their cars so that streets can be swept." Yes, but out of fear? Drivers should want to to move their cars out of love! Or at least a desire to scale some snow piles.
