It's been a long and harrowing six days of Cobra Watch 2011: Asp-ergers Syndrome—Escape From Bronx Zoo!, but the vigilante cobra who left a city paralyzed with fear has now been found! Wildlife Conservation Society officials are expected to announce that they have recovered the 20-inch long Egyptian cobra that escaped last Friday, a source told Fox 5. [Update Below]
Officials previously said they believed the cobra hadn't gotten very far, and was somewhere inside the Reptile House. That didn't stop the cobra from making a celebrity tour of NYC over the past days, gaining over 200,000 followers on Twitter, waiting with bated breath for her every pun. In her last tweet, she implied she was checking out the Yankees on opening day: "If you see a bag of peanuts inexplicably moving along the ground at Yankee Stadium today. Just ignore it. It's probably nothing." It's too bad she was found, since she was just starting to gain some steam in her Facebook petition to host SNL.
UPDATE: The snake was in fact not found on a plane—Bronx Zoo officials held a press conference this afternoon, saying the cobra had never left the House of Reptiles, and was found by workers just after 9 a.m. this morning. Workers said it wasn't hard to capture her, and she is now under observation. Either her name hasn't been given, or she has no name as of yet—you can expect some sort of naming contest in the near future in that case. As of 5 p.m., there have been no new updates from @BronxZoosCobra, which may spell the end for one of the great Twitterists of our generation the last three days.
