The Manhattan Cocktail Classic is back. Tickets for the third city-wide celebration of sipping spirits—including tickets for the honest-to-blog spectacular opening gala at the New York Public Library—aren't on sale until April Fools, but the lineup of the Classic's classes (the actual reason for the annual event) have just been released. This year the $50 courses, which run from May 13-17, were selected by popular vote (more than 20,000 people voted) and they sound pretty interesting.

Some of the courses coming to the Astor Center on Lafayette Street include: "Aperitivo: The Italian Happy Hour," led by Joseph Campanale; "Yo, Ho, Ho and a Bottle of Rum" led by Danny Valdez, David Wondrich, Ed Hamilton and Sean Kenyon; "Botanical Bartending" with Charlotte Voisey and Jim Meehan; "Preserving With Liquor for Kitchen and Bar: Local Ingredients 12 Months a Year," led by Francis Schott and Mark Pascal and "Whiskey of the World" with Wild Turkey distillers Eddie Russell and Jimmy Russell, Bowmore master blender Iain McCallum, and brand ambassadors Gardner Dunn, Kristina Sutter, Ross Hendry and James MacKenzie. Also fun sounding is "The Art of the Simple Cocktail," where mixologist Elayne Duke is going to persuade folks that "the complicated cocktail is dead."

Really though, the opening night gala is the key to this lovely event. If you've ever imagined getting happily toasted while surrounded by folks dressed to the nines in the New York Public Library's main branch—was that not your childhood fantasy too?—this event is for you. Unfortunately the price of this year's gala has not yet been announced.

And here's the full schedule of classes, for your records:
