Investigators are looking at whether a blown tire caused a bus headed from Chinatown to Pennsylvania to crash on the NJ Turnpike on Monday night, killing a passenger and the driver. The driver, Wei Wang, 50, of Forest Hills, Queens, was not wearing his seat belt and was thrown through the windshield "when the... Super Luxury Tours bus veered along a grassy median before striking a concrete overpass support."

With this crash and the Saturday crash of another Chinatown bus—one run by World Wide Tours—in the Bronx that killed 15, politicians are calling for a crackdown on these bus carriers that have become very popular with riders because they are very inexpensive. One passenger, Ashley Wilson, on the Super Luxury Tours bus said that she traveled between Queens and Philadelphia once a week, "It’s only 20 dollars. It was cheap." Now Wilson tells the NY Times that she's thinking about taking the train or driving.

However, the Star-Ledger points out the poor record for the operator, "A half-dozen citations for speeding and three citations for failure to obey a traffic control device were among the violations over the past two years that put Super Luxury Tours Inc. of Pennsylvania on alert status to federal regulators, according to an online safety report by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Thinking of the rankings as comparable to a golf score, lower is better. Super Luxury Tours had a score of 99.6 percent for unsafe driving, meaning it scored worse than all but .04 percent of bus carriers in the nation."
