Another night, another two-inch rainfall in the city. For the second time in five days two inches of precipitation filled the rain gauge next to Belvedere Castle. There was quite a gradient of rainfall across the region. To the east only a quarter-inch or so fell on the Hamptons. More than five inches of rain fell on central and northern New Jersey, leading to flooding, road closures and evacuations. National Flood Safety Awareness Week is happening one week too late!
A warm front this morning, quickly followed by a cold front this afternoon will chase away any remaining showers. Look for a westerly breeze and plenty of sun to warm us to at least the mid 50s today. Last night's storm was an old one, so the rain shield was way ahead of the storm's center. The center will pass way to our north tomorrow, making for a gusty Saturday with a mix of sun and clouds. The high will again reach the mid 50s.
As high pressure settles in behind the storm the city will see slightly cooler weather and several days of sunshine and lollipops. Sunday's high is expected to be in the low 50s, while the Monday and Tuesday should only reach the upper 40s.
