Will Beaux Arts style meet sleek technology? Well, if the Cult of Mac's report is to be believed, then Apple is putting its largest store at Grand Central Terminal: "The store will open in the fall, likely early September — and it will be Apple’s largest retail space in the world. The store already has a name: Apple Store, Grand Central, according to a source close the company. The source said Apple will be making an internal announcement within the next month or so."
Rumors about a possible store emerged last week, with the leasing agent and MTA remaining tight-lipped. The MTA's Marjorie Anders, who handles press inquiries about Metro North, told us the MTA has nothing to say, "It's just rumors." But rumors are the best thing to think about while taking the bar car home, right?
If rumors are true, Cult of Mac points out the current largest Apple Store in the universe is the Convent Garden location in London, clocking in at 40,000 square feet. Where there would be 40,000 square feet of space at Grand Central to hold all the gadgets is another question, but a few years ago, the estimated cost to rent retail space at Grand Central was quoted at $99/square foot.
