There's nothing like spotting a surefire controversy in its infancy: in a front cover story with Rolling Stone magazine, pint-sized haircut/prepubescent girl magnet Justin Bieber waxes rhapsodic about classic teenage stuff like girlfriends, Will Ferrell movies, annnnnnd abortion. According to RS: "'I really don't believe in abortion,' Bieber says. 'It's like killing a baby?' How about in cases of rape? 'Um. Well, I think that's really sad, but everything happens for a reason. I don't know how that would be a reason. I guess I haven't been in that position, so I wouldn't be able to judge that.'" We finally GOTCHA Bieb!
Sixteen-year-old Bieber, who was raised Christian, was last in NYC promoting his new movie, Never Say Never, which has been widely promoted as a strongly pro-Christian movie. There's certainly no way his words could possibly be taken out of context. The question is, why did Rolling Stone feel it was necessary to ask him about the controversial topic? And how long did their editors cackle after reading the transcript of the interview?
The pull quotes have already inspired this pointed tweet from Lost creator Damon Lindeloff: "Justin Bieber talking about abortion is like me talking about Justin Bieber." And Hugh Hefner tweeted, "When you do something special for your girl, like take them to a Bieber movie, they never say never," but we think that has more to do with the diseases in the Playboy Mansion getting to Hefner rather than with abortion. While you get pumped for the epic Biebortion debate that will undoubtedly ensue across America, here's Darth Vader reading the lyrics to "Baby."
