All season, there has been a lot of conflicting reports about where All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony might end up: he will only sign with the Knicks, he won't sign with the Nets, Denver doesn't want to trade him, etc. But according to Yahoo Sports, several NBA sources say that Anthony's agent, Leon Rose, has been making things crystal clear: he has reportedly begun informing teams that Anthony is really, truly, we-swear-it, only interested in signing a contract extension with the Knicks.
If it's true, it's probably in the Knicks best interest to play the waiting game, and not force a trade before the Feb. 24 trade deadline, according to one anonymous general manager: “That’s where it’s likely to go. Why give up assets to get him now when you can wait and get him next season?” Also in the Knicks favor: the team announced the hiring of Mark Warkentien, a former Denver executive, as director of pro player personnel; Warkentien is represented by the same agency as Anthony, another sign that the Knicks are serious about acquiring Anthony one way or another. Of course, let's just say we'll believe it when we see it.
