You can tell it was cold by the way the water vapor headed straight up out of the smokestacks this morning. In fact, today's the coldest day in more than two years! This morning's low was six degrees. The last time it was six degrees in Central Park was January 2009. Still, we were nowhere near the day's record of six below set in 1882. The coldest spot in the state this morning appeared to Lake Clear at 38 below.
But, enough of the cold, let's move on to warmer things. The high pressure system bringing us the clear skies is moving eastward. As the wind becomes more southerly it will keep the temperature from falling tonight. Tuesday's low will be about the same as today's high. Tomorrow's high will be in the upper 30s, which is normal for late January. We might see a dusting of snow overnight tonight but nothing major.
Do we have to talk about Wednesday's weather? It's going to be a mess. Yet another storm is going to move up the coast. Right now it looks like this storm will take a slightly more western route. If so the city will be in the snow, rain, slop zone. Light snow Wednesday morning should switch over to rain, possibly heavy, that afternoon and evening before switching back to snow early Thursday morning. It doesn't appear as if the forecast models have a good grip on this storm so don't be surprised if all the above isn't too accurate. Somewhat cooler weather will follow the storm.
