Now that Zamperla has successfully terrorized Coney Island institutions like Ruby's Bar & Grill and Shoot The Freak, it's sinking its talons into the Cyclone...temporarily. The family of Carol Albert has decided that after 37 years, the Cyclone is just too costly to run, and Zamperla says its been given control of the ride until the city can have a formal bidding process.
Zamperla is planning a number of repairs and "improvements" to the roller coaster, but since the ride is a New York City and a national landmark, they won't be able to tear it down or make any radical changes. But they can build a more extreme coaster nextdoor. Zamperla is planning to erect a new coaster in their "Scream Zone" on Stillwell Avenue, along with new rides Turbo Force, the Human Sling Shot and the Steeplechase coaster. And don't forget about the legendary Happy Go Pukey! All will be open for the new Coney Island season on Palm Sunday (April 16th).
