The sisters of Carlos Castro, the Portuguese journalist who was brutally murdered and castrated in a New York hotel room he was sharing with male model Renato Seabra, arrived in New York yesterday to claim their brother's body. But while mourning their brother, Maria Castro said she felt sorry for Seabra's mom, who told reporters, My son was not Carlos Castro's lover" and, "My son, being a golden boy, who is so good, he didn't do this." Maria Castro said, "I feel very sorry for his mom. She's probably suffering a lot."
She also mentioned meeting Seabra and said, "He looked like a cold person, very quiet. But I would have never thought he would kill my brother." Seabra reportedly confessed to killing Castro because he was trying to rid the journalist of his "homosexual demons" and told Castro "I'm not gay anymore!" before castrating him with a corkscrew. Detectives also believe he may have tried to kill himself, as he sought treatment for cuts to his face and wrists.
Castro's family is planning a funeral in New York and another ceremony in Portugal.
