Bears 38, Jets 34: It was a shootout that the Jets lost, but they stuck their foot into the playoff door despite the result of Sunday's game. Jay Cutler had three touchdowns for the Bears and Matt Forte rushed for 113 yards in the win. It was the first time an opposing team ran for more than 100 yards against the Jets this season. Things were going well for the Jets in the first half, ending it with a 24-17 lead, but it changed quickly in the second half.
On its opening drive in the 3rd quarter, the Jets ran an unsuccessful fake punt (Mark Sanchez pass to Brad Smith) on their own 40-yard like. The Bears capitalized on immediately with a touchdown pass on the next play. The two teams traded TDs, but the Jets were unable to answer Chicago's go-ahead touchdown with 6 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Sanchez was intercepted with under a minute in the game to seal the victory for the Bears. New York, which has lost 3 of 4 games, made the playoffs after Jacksonville lost to Washington.
Packers 45, Giants 17 It's almost surprising how good the Giants are this season when you consider how much they give the ball away. Hoping to bounce-back from their shocking loss to the Eagles last week, the Giants were able to keep pace with the Packers for almost one half. But an absurd six turnovers did them in. Eli Manning threw four interceptions (he leads the NFL with 24 interceptions) and Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs both got into the action, fumbling once each. The team now has 41 turnovers on the season. Returning from his concussion, Aaron Rodgers threw for 404 yards and four touchdowns for Green Bay. All the Giants needed to make the playoffs was a win yesterday. Instead, the Giants have to hope for a Packers loss this week against the Bears to make the playoffs.
Islanders 4, Canadiens 1: Dwayne Roloson made 38 saves in the victory against Montreal in front of 3,136 fans at the Coliseum. The Isles have won three straight and are 4-0-1 in their last five games.
Maple Leafs 4, Devils 1: New Jersey and Toronto played in front of an announced crowd of 5,329 in the blizzard. Those in attendance got to watch the fifth straight Devils loss and their 10th loss in their last 11 games.

Overflowing school in downtown Jersey City is hitting a crisis point, parents say
There aren't great options for relieving overcrowding at P.S. 16 in Paulus Hook. It's a consequence of a economic boom — and huge influx of residents.
