Sal Alosi, the Jets conditioning coach who intentionally tripped Miami cornerback Nolan Carroll during Sunday's game, has now been fined $25,000 and suspended without pay for the rest of the season. He will be allowed to return the day after the season ends, but until then he is prohibited from job-related interaction with players and coaches. Alosi told reporters, "I accept responsibility for my actions and respect the team's decision." Unsurprisingly, the Jets might not want him back next season.

The team hasn't made a decision on whether they will invite him back, but General manager Mike Tannenbaum said, "We're extremely disappointed with what he did. There's no place for it in the game. He knows that. It's our job to hold him accountable for that." Alosi seemed genuinely remorseful, saying, "You're asking me to give a logical explanation to an illogical act ... I wasn't thinking. If I could go back and do it again, I'd sure as heck take a step back [from Carroll]."

Carroll was running out of bounds as a "gunner" at the time of the trip, something Reshad Jones had been penalized for earlier in the game. It was suspected that Alosi and other coaches were instructed to form a wall to intimidate gunners running out of bounds, but Alosi said he was initially close to the field because he wanted to cheer on the players. Alosi was ironically the Jets "get-back" coach, in charge of making sure sideline personnel stand back from the action.
