At first, a huge blizzard in Minneapolis wasn't going to stop the NFL from making the Giants play the Vikings today at 1 p.m. But when Metrodome officials suggested to the NFL that the game be delayed (there is a "dangerous amount of snow" on the stadium's roof), the league rescheduled the matchup to tomorrow night at 8 p.m. EST. Fox will broadcast the game, which will only air in local markets.
The Giants were scheduled to fly into Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport yesterday, but the blizzard forced the team's plane to be diverted to kansas City. According to the Daily News, "They were stranded there Saturday night, and are scheduled to depart at 11 a.m. CST Sunday, weather permitting."
A Metrodome's sports facility spokesman said, "We weren't getting rid of it fast enough, and since we were hamstrung by the wind, we just said we might as well come back Monday morning. My belief is everything will be fine for Monday night." Hmm—this means another day for Brett Favre to heal! Update: Now it turns out that the Metrodome's roof, which is inflated, collapsed and the game will be played in Detroit at 7:20 p.m.
