NYPD officer Leopold McLean, who had long worked on security detail for Mayor Bloomberg, has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting his girlfriend's ex-lover and then trying to cover it up. McLean's girlfriend called him over after her ex boyfriend LePaul Gammons, whom she had a restraining order against, said he was coming over. McLean says he only shot Gammons in self defense, but a new story has emerged.

Forensics initially showed that Gammons was most likely running away from McLean when he sustained a shot to the buttocks. According to the court complaint, McLean pulled the gun on Gammons and chased him down 119th Road in Jamaica. McLean then reportedly called 911 to report a robbery, not the shooting. McLean was off-duty at the time.

Other charges against McLean include assault, criminal use of a firearm and reckless endangerment. He was released on $10,000 bail, and is due back in court in January. If convicted he faces up to 25 years in prison.
