TV reporter Arthur Chi'en, beloved to New Yorkers for telling off some stupid Opie & Anthony fans during a live broadcast (and then getting unjustly fired from WCBS 2), was the victim of a "marauding clown" during Sunday's Halloween Parade in Greenwich Village. Chi'en was on a float, and then an overzealous reveler tried to climb aboard, only for Chi'en to be dragged down onto the street; the Daily News says Chi'en's face was fractured in six places.
Chi'en said, "He was trying to scale the float and he grabbed my arm... I tried to wave him off, but the railing gave way. We both fell, but I landed face first in the street." The Daily News says, "When the costumed culprit saw the semiconscious newsman laid out in the middle of Sixth Ave., he bolted."
WPIX was broadcasting the parade, but its cameras didn't catch the clown in action. No arrests have been made. Chi'en added, "It was a free-for-all. There are barricades, but everyone is in the street. If any good can come out of this, maybe they can assign a cop to each float." He's about to head into surgery—feel better, Arthur!
