Let's go to the beach for Labor Day! That seems to be hurricane Earl's motivation this morning. Earl is moving parallel to the coast and will pass a couple hundred miles east of the city. Tropical moisture ahead of the cyclone has already invaded the Big Apple and we are likely to see breezy conditions a few showers this afternoon and evening. If you are out in the Hamptons look out for high winds, heavy surf, beach erosion, and a couple inches of rain. There will be even more of all that on Nantucket and Cape Cod. On the other hand, the cool kids at ATP this weekend won't see any rain.

A cold front is going to sweep through the city hot on Earl's heels. The pressure gradient between the departing hurricane and the arriving high pressure system means tomorrow will be windier than today. Otherwise look for mostly clear skies and a high close to 80. Sunday and Monday are looking similarly sunny and mild.

Because this is the summer where the heat doesn't stop -did you know the longest stretch of 90-degree weather this year was the past five days?- we are headed for a mid-week warm-up. Look for high temps to rebound to near 90 by next Tuesday. 2010 is only three days away from tying the record for most 90-degree days in a year!
