Who knew this day would come: Stephon Marbury pities the Knicks and possibly even Knicks fans. The Post caught up with the former player, who is currently playing basketball in China, and Starbury said of Isiah Thomas' return to the Knicks as a consultant, "Good luck, New York. Good luck, New York."
Marbury, you may remember, left the team in 2009, after being benched and bought out the final year of his very rich contract (the final year was worth $20.9 million; he gave up $2 million to leave town). The Post reports, "Marbury said he believes that [his] relationship [with Thomas] became damaged because of the 2007 sexual harassment suit by Anucha Brown-Sanders against Thomas. Marbury was called in to testify that he had sexual relations with a Knicks intern. A source close to Marbury said Thomas wanted him to be more evasive during testimony. Instead, Marbury's testimony was graphically blunt and honest." Marbury said, "It wasn't in my character to say it any other way."
As for Knicks President Donnie Walsh's reported unhappiness about Thomas coming back, Marbury said it's nothing new for Walsh to be cut out of the process. For instance, when he was benched, Marbury said it was all Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni's doing, "It looked to me like Donnie didn't have the power." However, Thomas says all is well, "Donnie Walsh and I, and Jim and I, we’ve always had great respect for each other."
