After five days of deliberations, a jury has convicted two men of plotting to blow up fuel lines at JFK airport. Russell Defreitas, a naturalized U.S. citizen who had been employed as an airport cargo worker at JFK, and Abdul Kadir, a former member of the Guyanese parliament, face life in prison after being found guilty of conspiracy charges. (A third defendant, Abdul Nur, pleaded guilty to providing material support to terrorists.) The half-baked plot, called "Shining Light," was detailed in taped conversations made secretly by a police informant. "Anytime you hit Kennedy, it is the most hurtful thing to the United States," Defreitas was recorded as saying. "If you hit that, this whole country will be in mourning. It's like you kill the man twice."
