[UPDATE BELOW] In a lavish, much-anticipated interfaith ceremony in Rhinebeck, NY, Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of former president Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, married Marc Mezvinsky, the son of former Congressman Edward Mezvinsky and former Congresswoman Marjorie Mezvinsky. The bride's parents issued this statement:

Today, we watched with great pride and overwhelming emotion as Chelsea and Marc wed in a beautiful ceremony at Astor Courts, surrounded by family and their close friends. We could not have asked for a more perfect day to celebrate the beginning of their life together, and we are so happy to welcome Marc into our family. On behalf of the newlyweds, we want to give special thanks to the people of Rhinebeck for welcoming us and to everyone for their well-wishes on this special day.

We'll update this post with more details about the wedding, but in the meantime, Chelsea's strapless gown was designed by Vera Wang (her mom did wear Oscar de la Renta); the LA Times describes it as being "a strapless raw-edged laser cut swirling silk organza ball skirt and train with a silk tulle diagonally draped bodice, accented by an embellished belt."

[UPDATE] And now, more details! The ceremony was not as star-studded as many local onlookers were hoping. While one woman previously said she hoped she would see Oprah, Ted Danson told the Times that he and his wife, Mary Steenburgen "must be the only celebrities in town. I’m sorry." Gawkers had a tough time identifying one of the other celebrities in attendance, Vernon Jordan. Apparently "one man in the crowd across the street identified Mr. Jordan as Hamilton Jordan, the late top aide to Jimmy Carter...Another identified him as Warren Buffett."

The interfaith ceremony was conducted by Rabbi James Ponet and Reverend William Shillady, and included a reading of "The Life That I Have" by Leo Marks. The couple incorporated parts of Mezvinsky's faith into other parts of the ceremony as well. They seem to have signed a traditional Jewish ketubah, and the structure of white flowers they stood under resembled a chuppah.

Afterward, the couple ate gluten-free wedding cake made by La Tulipe Dessert, and Chelsea Clinton danced with her dad to a Frank Sinatra ballad. One guest said, "It was very touching, he was beaming, he was teary-eyed." As for the next step in their relationship, Hilary Clinton told People back in 2007, "I'm not going to put any pressure on her. But my friends are starting to have grandchildren and it's a great experience, so I look forward to it someday."
