Amazing stuff: WABC 7 has photographs of a sand shark that swam ashore on a Seaside Park, NJ beach. Swimmers were called out of the water around 2:30 p.m. when the 5-foot shark was spotted 10 feet from shore. He (or she!) ventured onto shore—it doesn't seem as if he had a candygram.
The shark eventually went back into the sea. Seaside Park Beach Control said, "Sand sharks are pretty common because they're out there all the time feeding on dead fish. This one just happened to come in closer than normal." There have been a number of shark advisories this summer.
