While it's not an officially done deal until later this week, Amare Stoudemire agreed in principle to a five year, $99.7 million deal from the Knicks. At a press conference, he tried to endear himself to the Big Apple, "The New York is by far the best city in the world," and referred to the "great fans," adding, "The atmosphere is at an all time high. The Knicks are back, the city's on fire and they're ready."

The NY Times declares the 27-year-old "is the most talented player to wear a Knicks uniform in more than a decade, since Patrick Ewing’s decline." But the Daily News' Mike Lupica wonders, "Donnie Walsh finally became something more than a glorified basketball accountant Monday. Walsh became the kind of basketball man he was brought here to be. The Knicks get better now that they get Amar'e Stoudemire. The question is, how much better?"

The power forward is excited about his prospects, as well as those for fellow future name player, "This is New York. The marketing opportunities are uncanny. I also want to help build the franchise back up and feel great about being a pioneer.” Stoudemire also discussed the Knicks' recruitment of LeBron James, "I'm definitely going to reach out to him again and see if we can get him to come. I really have no reading on which way he is leaning at all, but again, he's totally open right now, he hasn't made a decision yet, and hopefully I can get him to choose us... I'm not sure where he's leaning. If he's leaning more toward New York, that would be a great start for us."
