Our favorite girlfriend-slashing former State Senator, Hiram Monserrate, the first member of the Senate expelled by a vote of his own colleagues since 1861, has recently suggested that he's gearing up to run for an Assembly seat. And it wouldn't be classic, classy Monserrate were there no report of him doing something mildly repugnant, like say, screaming obscenities outside of a Church.
According to Democrat Francisco Moya, who’s campaigning to get elected in the 39th Assembly District, he had a run-in with Monserrate and his followers (Monserratis?) on Sunday June 13, while handing out campaign literature in Corona, near St. Leo's church: “two of his volunteers showed up at my church while I was petitioning with my father. They proceeded to accost us by yelling and screaming obscenities in front of a church on Sunday. And then he showed up and jumped right in with them. At a church on Sunday. Some things never change."
Reached for comment by the Daily News, Monserrate said of the allegations, “I know nothing about it. I know nothing about what he’s talking about.” Just like he doesn't know the meaning of the word irony, or just deserts.
