Christopher "Dudus" Coke, the Jamaican accused of running drugs and weapons between New York and Jamaica, arrived at the Westchester County Airport yesterday. Since a manhunt for Coke claimed over 75 lives in Jamaica, there was a lot of security on hand. Coke eluded authorities for weeks, and when he was found, he was wearing a black wig under a fake Gucci hat and cops reportedly also found a pink wig in his car. A cop told the Jamaica Observer, "Maybe that is why he was able to stay in hiding for so long -- because people [were] looking for a man, but he was really a woman."
Coke also waived extradition; according to the Post, he said he hoped it would "go some way towards healing all who have suffered and will be of benefit to the community of Tivoli Gardens..."Above all, I am deeply upset and saddened by the unnecessary loss of lives which could have been avoided, be it of members of the Security Forces [or the] over 80 residents of Tivoli," adding that he was "fully confident that in due course, I will be vindicated... Pray for me, and God bless Jamaica."
He is expected in federal court in NYC today. US Attorney Preet Bharara said, "We are relieved that Coke's arrest and transfer to New York was not marked by the violence that had gripped the streets of Jamaica for so many days. We look forward to presenting our case to a jury in a Manhattan courtroom and bringing Coke to justice."
