Police have released a surveillance video which shows the man knocking down the elderly woman "as she [swings] her cane in self-defense" during a June 5 mugging in East Harlem on 121st Street. (Video after the jump.) The Daily News reports, "The mugger, described as a Latino in his 30s, accosted the woman and snatched the wallet from her purse. She hit her head as she fell and sustained injuries, cops said. The mugger then yanked her up from the sidewalk. Tipsters can make a confidential call to the NYPD's Crime Stoppers tipline at (800) 577-TIPS." Last year, a man who was convicted of beating up and mugging old women—including a 101-year-old using a walker—was sentenced to 75 years in prison.
