There are still no talks scheduled between over 400 striking pilots and Spirit Airlines, which has forced the airline to cancel all flights through
tomorrowWednesday
. Their website reads, "Spirit Airlines is continuing to work with our pilot union to reach a fair and equitable agreement that ensures the long-term stability of the company, and allows us to continue offering you the ultra low fares you have come to know and love," and offers flight credit to those who intended to fly on those dates. But refunds aren't getting travelers where they need to be.
Student Rupi Sckhon, visiting family in New York from Detroit, tells the Daily News, "I'm supposed to be in lab class by tomorrow morning. Now I have to drive 10 hours to make my class." Another traveler in Ft. Lauderdale said, "It took me three hours to get to the airport, just to find out there are no flights going out." The striking pilots insist their contract isn't fair, though Spirit claims they offered pilots a nearly 30% raise over five years, a signing bonus and a larger retirement plan match in previous negotiations.
