The next forty-five days are going to be murder on Knicks and Nets fans. With LeBron James officially done for the season, rampant speculation will be the norm of the day and you will hear a different rumor or prediction every minute.
One camp, backed prominently by Spike Lee, feels that the Cavaliers second round exit from the playoffs will be the motivation for LeBron to leave Cleveland. The thinking is that after a 61-win season and a second round playoff flameout, LeBron realizes that he needs more help than Cleveland can provide and he will bolt the Cavs for another team.
The other side says that since LeBron is from the Cleveland area, this playoff flameout will motivate him to win a title for his hometown even more. Cleveland is starving for a championship having gone 46 years since the Browns won the 1964 NFL Championship.
Throw in plenty of other guesses. New York would allow him to grow even richer with all of the endorsement potential that would be available to him. And, if he came to the Knicks and won a title he would immediately ascend into the pantheon of New York legends. New Jersey would offer him the chance to play with good young talent—and for his good friend Jay-Z. Chicago has Derrick Rose, a point guard who could maximize LeBron’s talent and a team that made the playoffs this year without him.
There are millions of rumors, innuendo and speculation, but there is simply one undeniable fact. Until July 1st rolls around and LeBron makes his decision, nobody knows what they are talking about.
