NYC has its fair share of attention-grabbing Judges, whether they be loud-mouthed, Elvis-like, or Supreme Courty. But when accused drug kingpin Alvin Frazer tried to defend himself before Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Edward McLaughlin by claiming he was "an addict," and therefore couldn't have run a major wholesale cocaine operation, he was faced down by the quippiest Judge in all the land.
Judge McLaughlin reasoned that were Frazer to have had the serious addiction he claimed to have, and be around the kilos of cocaine which he admitted to handling, "he would be akin to a stuffed animal." Burn. "He would have had powder in his veins instead of blood." Freezer burn. "He would be embalmed with the amount of drugs he had ingested."Montgomery Burns. Judge McLaughlin sentenced Frazer to the maximum 17 years in jail, but more historically, made inroads for quipping Judges everywhere, the likes of have not been seen since the heyday of Judge Harold T. "Harry" Stone.
